WARNING TO LABOUR.
STRAIGHT TALK BY MR. BEEBY,
MUST EJECT NOISY MINORITY
Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn)
(Roc. February 5, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 5, The lion Mr. Boeby, discussing the industrial position avi tit the Newcastle Labour Council,' strongly condemned : I 0 tendency of the younge*r members |oL unions without responsibilities to ! absent themselves from meetings thereby allowing those' with anarchic tendencies to got control. Many unions J were leaving their management in .tbe hands of a noisy minority. If this continued, an amendment of tbe Trades Union Act, invalidating all decisions of ballots unless carried by a certain proportion of members, was inevitable, and tli.e State must in many other ways step in to control unionism unless -evidence was forthcoming of the determination of the majority of ! unionist's to help the Government to maintain the Arbitration system. The amendment in tho law would probably be 111 the direction of limitation of the system of Jixing a bare minimum for wages. Mr. Beeby urged the pressing necessity for unionists realising the financial and economic effects ol the war and tlie need for the continuity of work in all branches of industry.
