A LINER'S ESCAPE.
NEW ZEAL AND LINER EVADES A SUBMARINE. The following extract from the "Wekly News',' (Scotland) of January 29th, will be read with interest, as it refers to a liner well known in the New Zealand trade: — . , . Suspecting, the presence of. an enemy submarine, the captain immedir ately had the "helm put; hard aport, and, trayeiling as she was at t full speed, the ship at once began to swing round. "At this moment the periscope of a submarine emerged from the discoloured water, and simultaneously the track of a torpedo- was observed heading for the ship.
