Special attention has been paid to communications, with a view to swiftly throwing in the reserves. i The transport of munitions con j tiiiues and depots are filling 1 up with supplies of all sorts. The German officers are enthusiastic, but the men are indifferent. PARIS, December 27. It is reported that General Mackensen is in command in Alsace. Swiss reports indicate that the Germans are being heavily rein|forced. There is growing artillery activity at Ypres at La Bassee Canal. These are believed to herald the big- German offensive. PARIS, December 27. A communique states : There has been great artillery- activity south of Bailleul and south of Arras. We blew up a munitions depot at Woevre, also an aminuni-' tion train standing at the railway station at Hachinette, southeast of Bonhomrae.
