MORE SHIPS TORPEDOED.
A PLUCKY RESCUE.
[PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION — COPYEIGHT-J LONDON, December 25. The steamer Maru was torpedoed, without warning, on Tuesday afternoon and sank in fifty minutes. A French gunboat picked up the passengers and crew at midnight and landed them at Port Said. The passengers have great admiration for the skill of the captain and officers and discipline of the 'crew. The disembarkation was carried out iii perfect ordei and with the greatest promptitude. The passengers totalled l£o, whereof eighty-one were British, six Japanese and one i American. The crew totalled 260 ( PARIS, December 27. ; A submarine torpedoed and sunk the French steamer Ville le la Ciotaa on Friday in the Mediterannean without warning. Many passengers were drowned.
