MAN KILLED BY OTIRA EXPRESS A shocking accident by which Hugh M'Leod, a sawmill hand engaged at Nyberg Bros. mill at Ruru lost his life occurred on Friday. It appears that M'jueod in company with Mr. Nyberg was riding a bicycle along the railway track between Ruru and Moana, Nyberg being in the lead. • At a curve the Otira-Greymouth ex- - press caught up on M'Leod, and before the train could be brought to a standstill or the unfortunate man get off the track the cowcatcher struck him hurling him some distance. He was immediately placed on the train but died before reaching Aratika, the injuries consisting of a fracture of the skull and the Tight leg broKen. An inquest was held on Saturday and , formal evidence of indentincation taken. Further proceedings were tnen adjourned till Wednesday. Deceased, who was about 55 years of age, was a married man, but had no ? family.
