GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB SPRING MEETING., THE NUT WINS BIG RACE. PARLOYNA AND HARD SHOT WIN DOUBLES. It was indeed unfortunate for the above Club that yesterday morning brok(> so disagreeable; and the won. flier condii-ii'm.s no doubt, interfered in a marked degree towards the poor attendance. Notwithstanding this the spectators seemed to appreciate tne racing, and also the vast improvements tint have been carried out since the last meeting at Onioto. The removal of the outside stand has increased the lawn space and this gave the people more room, to move to and fro, and assisted to make the afternoon most enjoyable. The new Totalisator House and Judges Box were much admired. The- Totalisator silent machine was used for the first time in Greymouth and seemed to give entire satisfaction, although the staff had quite an easy day of it. The Club officials were congratulated on all sides in re. gard to the progressive step they have taken, and now the appointments at Omoto rank second to none to any of the clubs outside the four centres. In two instances the fields were small, and only two horses started ' in the Welter Handicap. wont Off most satisfactorily, with the exception of a protest in the Paroa Hack, which took the committee some little time to cope with, and the machine money was locked up until well into the afternoon, but eventually the protest was dismissed. The Tea Rooms were managed by a strong ladies' committee, and as the proceeds go to the Wuonded Soldiers' Fund, it is quite safe to say that the fund will us a result greatly benefit. The totalisator returns for the day were £3645, which are considerably below those of last year.. The following are the results: — TRIAL HANDICAP, 50 soys.; 5 furlongs. — I— J.
