PLENTY OF SHELLS.
PRODIGIOUS EXPENDITURE
LONDON, October 21. The Times says that despite the' great amount of high explosive shells expended in tbe Loos advance, the supply is not exhausted. The gunners had more ammunition in hand than expected at tlie end of the fight. In some cases the supplies were greater at the end of the struggle than at the. beginning, owing to the excellent transport. But. an unlimited supply for completely beating down the German entrenchments has still to be attained. About 1,000,000 Britishers are now employed making munitions. .Aoout 5,000 skilled engineers have been brought back from the trenches. Mr. I). Lloyd- George, in the House of Commons, announced that there are now 1002 State-controlled munition establishments.
