(Received 2 p.m.) PARIS, June 12. Taking 1 advantage of the north-east-erly wind on Wednesday night, the Ger mans, using- poisonous g^as, -vigorously attacked the' Belgian advanced posts at Dixmude. They rushed across the Yser and captured three lines of Belgian trenches. . The Allies brought up 'reinforcements, including a British regiment, md a spirited -counter-attack followed at daybreak . The British charging with valour, the enemy were driven back over the Yser, and compelled to take a less favourable position than the original. Fierce fighting continues. Half the" town is held by the Ger mnns and l, ! alf by the Allies. The Belgians near NiQiiport found the Island between the small tributaries of the Yser abandoned . . They saw two bottles attached to a » lank inscribed : "The bottles contain photographs" j The Belgians vainly tried to lift tho bottles from thr» water. The enemy .wnmediate.lv shelled the snot, the bottles signalling the BelCflv ' lns Presence on the Island which w;>>s renccunied. The Belgians subsequently cantured Gfrma.n 'workmen emnloyed in the construction of a submarine at Hoboken .which was transferred to Pola.
