TRIBUTE TO ME. FARQUHAR YOUNG

At the conclusion, of the Hokitika Competitions on Saturday evening, Mr. L. F. De Berry, the President of the Society presented the special prizes won, and congratulated the winners. Messrs Hargreaves and J. B. Ward briefly responded. The Club championship was won by All Saints Institute, with 843 points, St. Andrews being second with 69S points. This being the third year in succession that All Saints have won the championship the Cup becomes their property. Mr. H. G. Andrews, received the Cup on be half of All Saints Institute and suitably responded. Mr. de Berry expressed the thanks of the Society to the Judge, Mr. Farquhar Young, for his valuable services. The success of the Competitions was owing almost entirely to the tact, ability and attainment of Mr. Young. The judge had earned the golden opinion of all, — committee, winners, losers and audience. Mr. de Berry said that he had had a lengthy experience in competitions and had come in contact with the work of no fewer than twelve judges, j aad he could sincerely say that Mr. Young was excelled by none in critical acumen and he certainly excelled all in the ability to "deliver the goods." Both in singing and in elocution Mr. Young was a pastmaster, while his gentlemanly manner had attached all them The speaker wished Mr. Young every good wish, and trusted he would make many more visits to the West Coast. Mr de Berry next thanked Miss Daly the official accompanist and spoke in generous and appreciative terms of that lady's abilities.

Votes of thanks were accorded the givers of the special prize, the Press of the town, the Anibulance Brigade and all who assisted. '
