THE HAWKES BAY SEAT
RESULT STILL IN DOUBT.
A MATTER FOR THE ELECTION
COURT
BY TELEGB.AXH— PEB, PRESS ASSOCTJ.TION
HASTINGS, Dec. 29. The result of the magisterial recount is as telegraphed last night,In the course of his finding Mr McCarthy, S.M., certified that at- the scrutiny of marked I'olls used by several deputy returning officers it appeared from a comparison that two voting papers were issued in respect of each of 47 numbers
He further certified that 97 persons would seem to have voted under a declaration made pursuant to Section 18 of the Amending Electoral Act, 1914, *nd that only 85 of such persons can be traced to have been on any roll, and whereas the result of the recount differs from the returns of th c Returning Officer, which are incorrect, be ordered the Returning Officer on a recount to make the amended return. It is necessary to point .out that the 47 dual votes mentioned in the finding are not the 47 votes declared by the Magis trate to be informal, and which increase the number of informal votes 'declared by the Returning Officer in his official declaration from 53 to 100. The number is merely a coincidence. . Dual voting and apparently false declaration of voting are matters for the Election. Court to deal with, and not till then will it be definitely known who is member for Hawke's Bay.
