GREYMOUTH COMMITTEE. YESTERDAY'.S MEETING. / A meeting of the Executive was. hel: 1 yesterday ■morning, when there were present: The Major (chairman), Messrs J. McLean. E. A. Wickes. H. C. Harley. J. F. White. D. McKay,D. Tennent, JF. Campbell, D. Carter, Mcßride; also Messrs Denton and Daniel (joint secretaries.) The Treasurer reported that the receipts were as follows : — General Fund .• 2775 17 2 Ladies' Fund 34* n o School Fund 55 17 6 Belgian Relief Fund 93 '8 2 Total £3266 13 10 A letter was received from Mr. Tom Pollard in reply to a letter from the Committee, in which it was suggested (by the Committee) that Mr. Pollard devote to the Huntly Disaster Fund the proceeds of the next entertainment, intended to be given in. aid of the Patriotic Fund. Mr. Pollard offered- to devote the proceeds of the entertainment to be held on Monday next to the- Huntly Fund.. . T; was decided, on the- motion of the Mayor, seconded by *Mr. Campb.M lto agree to the offer. T-o Treasurer (Mr. Perkins). repor;e ■ that he had handed over the sum of £75 to trie Consul for Belgium (Mr. Cecil Ward), t<j be forwarded to .Belgium for relief of distress there: Mr. Perkins reported that the Canterbury Equipment Committee had advanced the sum- of £25 each to Captain Cribb and Lieut Conw,ay. and suggested that the £50 should be refunded^ to The Canterbury Committee Moved by Mr. Campbell, seconded by Mr. Perkins, that the £50. in question be. refunded to .the Canterbury Equipment Committee from the Ladies' Fund.— Carried. The following telegram was received from Colonel Thomas, commanding the Mounted Field Ambulance, at the i-almei-ston. North camp:— "Re Regimental Fund, Wanganui. West Coast including Palmerston. already guaranteed £4 per man theiT district. Glad if your committee do same. We have "ix men from yOur district. Embark ■Maunganui. Wednesday." Moved by Mr. Campbell, seconded by Mr. Carter, that the telegram be received and that no action be taken. — Carried. ' A letter was received from the Mayor of Westport. attaching a copy of, a letter received from Mr. R. Tossweil, of Christchurch Patriotic Committee, re a canteen fund, so as to enable the troops to have an amount at their disposal which may be used in case of emergencies. South. Canterbury, it is understood aie providing" £200 for their compan ies, Nelson and Marlborough ,£2OO for their two companies. The remaining company is composed of the North Canterbury and West Coast men. To provide a fund for the last-mentioned company the Committee are contributing £50. and suggest that the West Coast should co-operate and provide the other £50. Moved by Mr. McLean that the Com mittee regrets that there are no funds* at its disposal foe the purpose Seconded by Mr. Campbell and carried. The Mayor stated' that the Ladies Committee had reported that they would arrange to dispose of button holes on Labour Day, the proceeds of the sale to be devoted to the Belgian Relief Fund, and that later on a floral fete would be held. A dance in aid of the Patriotic Fund wil] be held on Tuesday, 27th October Moved by Mr. Wickes that the offer to sell buttonholes on Labour Day be accepted with thanks. — Seconded by Mr. White and carried. Moved by <Mr. McLean that £50 of the School Fund be remitted to' the' Education Department at Wellington. This fund is to be devoted to the purchase of ambulance outfits. — Seconded by Mr. McKay and carried. Mr. William Fairhall donated a further sum of £2 to the Patriotic Fund," and promised to contribute £r pei month while the war lasts. The sum of £1 was handed in on behalf of the Waterside Workers' Union. Moved by Mr. Wickes. and seconded by the Mayor, that all donations be acknowledged through the press, a complete list to be published. — Carried. The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
