BOMBARDMENT OF PAPEETE
TOWN PARTIALLY DESTROYED

WELLINGTON, Oct. 6
With respect t<y the announcement of the bombardment of Papeete by German cruisers, the Governor has received information that the gunboat Zelee was destroyed and a considerable portion of the town destroyed by shell fire.
His Excellency has also received ?7» assurance from the Admiralty that they have the situation well in hand.
