Hamel in a French monoplane, . in 4549: seconds, came first; Barnwell,- in an English monoplane, 4724 sees, second ; Hawer in a Sopwith,. biplane ,5124; sees, was third. No British engine- was used. After the race Pickles aeroplaned with Mrs. Stocks as a passenger. They somersaulted, the former sustained a fractured leg. .and the laidy concession of the brain.,
