CANTERBURY. ; The following description of the match is taken, firom the Lyttelton Times: — . - . ; . .'.. i The second contest in Christchurch for the iNew: Zealand Association's 'Challenge Shield was played at Lancaster ' Park on Thursday, -when West .Coast were the challengers. The wea--thcr was perfect and the ground dry b.nd smooth. The teams were as follows : — , r West Coast, (blue and black)— Goalkeeper, McFadgen; backs, O'CaJlaghan.and Thomas; halves, Mclntosh AVhite and Kiflgour; forwards, Hanra:han, Pring, : Parfitt, Ryan and-Keat-ing. ; Canterbury ('red and black) — Goalkeeper, Luxtbn ; backs, Chambers and Sherwood; halves, Throb, Sncll. and Duffield; forwards, 'Green, ftelletly, Harrington, HuJibert and Patrick. ' FIRST HALF. ; iFrom the initial bully Patfitt broke away with Ryan in attendance, but the Ball went out near Canteibury'b goa^-line. Throp's roll-in centralised play, and then Hulbert ran to the visitors' quarter flag.. Thomas hit to Rj'an, .who instituted an attack by the visitors. Hard hitting, however, caused a bully at the home beam's'twentyfive. Parfitt and Ryan intshed mto Canterbury's circle, «but Chambers cleared. A Red attack instituted by a long pass from Patrick saw Hulbert 'run through, and Mclntosh conceded a corner. 'Another corner followed, and the ball was netted, but offside play against the Reds relieved. A further corner against the visitors ended 'in' Gelletly hitting' over. The ball remained in the West Coast end for some time, Duffield, Snell, and Throp stopping the Blues' attempts to clear. The Coast backs cleverness in keeping the ball 'from the net. Canterbury five, West Coast nil. Parfitt broke away, but Chambers stopped him, and a Red attack was in turn cleaircd by McFadgeri. A nice run in which all the Canterbury forwardsparticipated ended in Gelletly scoring. Canterbury six, West Coast nil.
