CONCERT

ST. COLUMBA CLUB. A highly: successful concert was given last night by the members of the St. Columba Club in their club Tooms. The audience was , both . nu: merous and appreciative and the performers all received a fair and .generj ous measure of applause. The concert was of a high quality all v thr6ug s h, and if; succeeded by others of a like nature, the attendances ; are bound to be good. ; Mr V. }- Smyth Avas the first performer and was heartily applauded for his recitation. . He was 'followed' by Mr K. S. Dillon, who was in good voice ;. he : also appeared later on in the programme in a musical monologue for which he \yas recalled. . Miss iFlintoff \yas encored for her contribution, but it seemed to us that her second number suited- her voice better than the first. Miss Chapman has the right style for humourous recitations and t was one of the most popular of the performers. In "May Morn," Miss Hannan proved herself to be the possessor of a carefully trained voice. She was encored ■on each of .her appearances. Mr Bryant's singing was a treat and the audience were loth to let him- go. He' seemed to -find most favour with "When Other Lips." Some rollicking- songs were sung by Mr F. H. Melville, whose voice, well suited the. hall. Misses. Belami and Hannan also had to. respond to. encores,, while Mr O. 'Egden quite carried the audience away with his recitation. Mr F. McCarthy being indisposed was unable to appear. Misses Higgins and R. Hannan, and Mrs Dillon, were the accompanists, and deserve a* word of thanks for the. efficient manner in which they carried out their duties. At the concluson of the concert, the club rooms were thrown open. to the public and many availed themselves of the opportunity of inspecting them.
