KILLED BY A MOTOR CAR.

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. (Per Press "Association.)'... CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 21 . > An inquest was opened ' to-day into the deiath of Thomas' Ryan, who, died, at the hospital last night from ••.he effects of injuries received from a motor car running in/o him in Cathedral Square 'about five o'clock, yesterday evening. The Coroner said that the police were not satisfied that due care was used in driving- the car, and required time in order *to make further ■inquiries 'before the whole matter was placed 'before the jury. . , F. T. Scott', medical superintendent of the. hospital, sta.!ed that on examination of dedeased when admitted witl--mess found evidence of a fracture of the spione in the i lower cervical region. He had also 'broken his left ankle. Ryan took suddenly worse about' Bp.m., his breathing (becoming, very weak ,and he died about 8.15 as the resuHj of his injuries'.
