THE BITTER PIT.

(By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) MELBOURNE, May 11. Doctor Jean White, and Professor Ewart, of the Melbourne University are believed to have discovered the cause of the 'bitten pit in apples. It is supposed to -be the result of a certain spray used to destroy codlin moth. The scientists are cautious but sufficient reliance is placed upon j the discovery to justify the postpone- j ment of Federal and State' investigation on which it was intended' to expend £10,000". The prevention of the bitter pit would mean a saving of millions to apple growers.
