MR J. D. GILLIES APPOINTED.
Ail anxiety about the appointment ot Uie engineer to the Greymouth Harbour Board is at length removed. , The Government have appointed Mr J. D. Gillies to the office after a good deal of consideration, so mat a suitable (selection might be made. The Board is to be congratulated in securing the services of a member of the. engineering profession who is at once so competent and so iarriiliar with the class of work re quired. ' Mr Gillies obtained a verygood general knowledge of our harDour works while assisting Mr lliompson, the retired engineer of the Board. Mr Gillies, it will be remembered, was the engineer for , the railway bridge across the Grey 2ivcr to Cobden, and over which, the coal trains run to and from t"ne •State mine.- Mr Gillies has besides had a wide* .general experience in civil engineering x and surveying of every description. It is a trioute to Mr Gillies' qualifications that he should have - been • selected by the Government, who are well aware of Ins professional ability. We congratulate. Mr Gillies on receiving the ap pointmerit. •'• '
