PECULIAR SHOOTING CASE.

NAPIER, March 20. At the Magistrate's ' Court this morning, a young man named J. ... Young Hannay, was charged with having fired a shot gun at three othSbrs, 'Robert Colquhoun, John Miller and Fren Johnson and was committed for trial to the~"Supreme Court, ■bail being allowed. The evidence showed that a quarrel took place in one of the nr&in •streets on the evening of 13tb inst and that the three prosecutors after rtards followed accused to his borne, for the purpose they, stated, of demanding an apology. The accused went into the house and brought out a shot gun and discharged both barrels at the other three, who theD fell into retreat, thinking that Hannay had brought some friends to his assistance.. Colquhoun wag struck by two pellets of- the shot, but was only slighly tinjured. Hannay says he merely tried to scare the others and when he 'bought they were at a safe distance.
