A meeting of the Grey Education Board was held, last evening. Present — Messrs Kerr (chair). Messrs Harris, Noble, RyaH. While. McCarthy, Hon James Marshall. Under ■ such circumstances it was impossible to hold the encampment. . Mr Kettle expressed regret^that the apathy of the teachers had w*bed the boys of the encampment. The secretary of the Dispatch Foundry wrote as follows :— "I have been instructed to convey to you the hearty approval of my Board in the steps you recently took to establish an Engineering Class at the Technical School in this town. Mv Board feels §ure that when propcrlv established the class will prove of great benefit to the young men who seek its assistance; and as a practical expression of the [support it. wishes to extend to you in this matter my Board would respectfully offer the presentation of two prizes,' £5 and £3 (Ist and 2nd) for. the best mathematician and mechanical drau-. ghtsman v to be competed for at a date which would prove satisfactory to your Board. ■ If it pleased your Board to accept our offer we would suggest, the necessity of fixing an age limit for competitors, and that the matter 01 «/- ranging same be left in the hano» 01 Messrs James Bishop and P. STENHOUSE, Secretary. Mr Kerr expressed pleasure at reccivinu such a generous offer. He thought they could not do better than appoint Messrs Bishop and Hambleton to carry out the conditions. He desired to state that the chairman of directors of the Foundry Company, Mr Felix Campbell, was an enthusiast and would do his utmost to encourage the youth. The donation would be much appreciated. Mr Kettle moved that a letter be forwarded to the Foundry Company congartulating them on their splehdid offer. The Board of Governors might take a lesson from the Foundry and make another presentation. It was unanimously resolved -that Inspector Scott intenriew Mr Bishop and ask him to be examiner. OTHER MATTERS. The request of the Grensteone Committee for repairs amounting to £20 was agreed to on the motion of Messrs White and McCarthy. The Cobden Committee applied for repairs and furniture, and on Messrs Ryall and Noble's motion the request was granted .the committee to attend to the work themselves. The Runanga Committee were wrnntcd certain repairs on thq motion of Messrs Kerr and Noble. The repairs to the fence at Paroa was left in the hands of the chairman to deal with. The Blackball Committee wrote re certain repairs at Blackball. Messrs Kcrr and White moved that the carpenter present a written report at next meeting. Carried. Miss Kelly wrote resigning her position at Inchbonnie. Received and left with the chairman to make a temporary appointment. Miss Dowling was granted £2 for repair i to the Marsden school house on the motion of Messrs Kettle and Kerr.
