THE BAND CONTEST.
NEW PLY,MOUTH,Feb. 28. At the band contest the trombone trio resulted as follows:— Wanganui 74 points, 1 ; Auckland Ist Battalion 73 points, 2j Woolston, 71 points 3; Mornington 70 points, Taranaki 69, Masterto-n 66, also competed. NEY PLYMOUTH, Feb 28. . At the final test of the selection piece "William Tell" to-night on the Rccreution Grounds ther € was a large attendance. The "total gate takings were .£7OO. The 'results are :—
"A" .grade— first prize £100, most points -in two selections, won by Mornington 2Q2, Auckland Ist. Battalion second 286 points, Woolston third 275, Hastings 256, Master-ton 255. The Besson Shield for . higihest points in music, including the march, nvas won by Auckland Buttalion with 381 points. "B" grade, first ,£3o— JPalmerston North 4 with 257 points ; Auckland Mounted Rifles second 257 .points 2nd, Maraia 251 3rd, Malon 250 4th. Boosey Shield most -points, all music, "B" grade to Palmerston .North.
The results were announced at 12.23 a.m.
