Oct 12. - There was favourable weather for the opening of "the V.A.T.C. spring •meeting ; but the meeting was seriously affected by Sydney racing the same day, and the attendance also suffered. The results are:— 1010 Welter— Perfection 1, Off Chance 2, Ringlet 3. Twenty-eight started. 7 to 1. Perfection. Won by three lengths. Time 1.29 J. Dubutante Stakes.— Miss Bass 1, Kuban 2, Peterhof 3. Twelve others ran. 8 to ' 1 winner. Won by a length. Time 49 3-4 sec. •Caulfield Stake 3 .— Ebullition i, Ellis and Subterannean dead heat 2. Other starters-May .King, Booran/ Bendigo, Solution, Yabba Gabba. 3to 1 Ebullition.;- PJaced' ..horses in the van •throughout but in the straight Ebullition drew out and won by a length. Time 1.58 J. High Weigh Handicap — Heiro 1, Sivori 2, Submarine 3. Nineteen started. 9 to 2 against Heiro. Won by a head. Time 1.15 L Members Handicap.— Coppertop 1, Duke Clarence 2, Blavbmark 3. Eleven started. 8 , to 1 Coppertop. Won by short neck. Time 1.56. Dowling Steeplechase.— Haydn I, Swimmer 2, Fipi. Six started. 2to 1 j against Haydn who led throughout! and won by half a* length from Swimmer who was only there on suffer- ! ance. Eclair fell and Phaetontis lost his rider.
