A CHARGE EXPLAINED.

PERTH, .Oct 12. Mr Brown, member for Perth, in the Assembly accused Mr Illingworth, $xmemiber . and treasurer^ of ' having loaned to himself from the Savings Bank through a dummy ,£4300, out of which he alleged Mr Illingworth ■made a profit of £3300 m six months. Mr Brown admitted the Joan was refunded, but contended that no man of honour had a right to use the Go- \ vernment" funds to finance him.' The Treasurer, referring to the charge, said it was . cruel" to bring such charges against a man, who is now lying at death's door in a private asylum in Melbourne, especially _*as the affair occurred in 1901. He had gone through the papers and foiind nothing to support the charge that Mr Ullingworth had wrongly used his position. The transaction, as far as the Treasury was concerned, appeared to be perfectly clean. The security was ample", and the money was duly repaid with specified interest.
