People at Patutahi; about two miles from Rua's camp were thrown into a state of excitement when it became known that Rua and his followers had threatened to burn down houses. On Sergt, Williams and other members of. the police force investigating they learned that the reports were due to' some drunken Maoris, who w.ere not connected with, the so-called prophet, and who had threatened to burn down a hotel because they had been refused a drink.
