DRUID'S FANCY DRESS BALL.

The first anniversary ball of the Ahaura lodge was held in James's Hall, Ahaura, on Friday and proved a huge success both from a social and financial point of view. The hall was nlled to overflowing, there being something like 260 present, and the fancy costumes were exceedingly good The music was supplied by Miss McGilhcuddy (piano) ably assisted by Mr Anderson (violin), the piano having been kindly lent by Mrs Hugh Smith. The time and music were voted excellent The catering was done by the' brothers who were ably assisted by! Mesdames Carmine and Brooks and Misses Garth, Anderson and others. The function is con sidered to have eclipsed anything of the kind ever held in Ahaura there being; representatives from all round the district. Bro L. J. Carmine announced on behalf of the lodge that at the next anniversary a gold bangle' would be given for the best lady in fancy costume and a gold sovereign case for the besV gentleman in- cos-: tume. 1 The following appeared in fancy rostumc viz: — Miss M. Comerford in presenting the winner, Miss Law- ' rence with the bangle congratulated her on her- win atfd hoped she would live long to wear it. The character "Erin" was truly represented by hei and her win was very 'popular. Three hearty cheers were called for the "belle" and they were given very ■heartily.

C. Meyer; V.AJB's Bros A. Thomas and J. Wilson. At the conclusion of the ceremony the District President was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. At the regular meeting of the lodge on Thursday there were four new members initiated and eight others proposed.
