TO MAKE FIDO BEG.

The very first and most important thing in -training any animal is to impress upon him the fact that you are his friend. 'If he has been abused, this point is essential. When he discovers that he will nob be punished without cause he is ripe for development. Never allow anyone to feed him but yourself, and never give him his meal until he has gone through his tricks. Of course, this is just while the dog is training. The next essential in training a dog is to impress him with your authority. Give the dog to understand that while you are his friend you are also his master. While working the dog, applaud and encourage him whenever he obeys promptly, cajoling him and romping with nim, so that he will not only become playful, but will take an interest •in everything you suggest.
