The many electors of Westport who placed Mr F F Munro in the office of Mayor in the hope that his services would be available as a member of fche Harbor Board are anxiously awaiting news of his appointment to thafc body. The delay in making fche appointment seems to be unnecessarily prolonged.

The Waiho Sluicing Company aro now iv full swing having fcwo nozzles playing on the face with 40 heads of water. Mr Nicholson, the manager, does not find any exceptional difficulty in sluicing the ground.

The success of the Newton River Sluicing Company haa induced the directors to look out for other likely looking sluicing ground, and they have pegged oufc several claims at Horse Terrace, Matakitaki.

Good pogress (says fcbe W C Times) continues to be made wiih the launching of the s. s. Torgauten. The vessel has now bi>en moved over 300fb insbore and to-day (Monday; a start will be made to place her on the launching ways. The launching operations throughoub have been mosfc satisfactory, and from an outward in* spection the ship has sustained no damage. She is about lOOffc from the direct; course for launching and Captain Bentley who has been -iippr vising fche work anticipates she will be ready for putting ioto the river by the end of the week.
