Weather at Waimate

» ■ — [per press association,) Waimate, January 28. An unusually heavy hail and thunders'orm passed over portion of the district yesterday forenoon. The hail was very large and played havoc wherever the sturm tiaversed, especially in gardens by stripping all kinds of plants and leaving nothing but the stems. The grain crops do not appear to be much injured, except in one case of the suburbs of tho town, where a ten acre paddock of wheat was completely cut down end is not worth cutting. The storm was not confined to a narrow strip and passed out to sea. Snow lay a couple of inches deep and snowballing was indulged in. The snow in the shade lay till this morning.
