At the inquest on the body of the late John M'Keegan, heli at Kumara on Saturday, a verdict of accidental death was returned. The funeral took place on Sunday, and was one of the largest ever seen in this district. The Kumara Catholis Band, Groymouth Catholic Band, and Waimea Brass Band joined for the purpose of showing their respect to the deceased, who was practically the father of the Kumara Catholic Band. Tke Rev Father O'Hallahan conducted tha services at the church and cemetery. The wreaths and large attendance of mourners from all parts of Westland spoke eloquently of-the esteem and respect in which the deceased was held and the profound sympathy felt for his bereaved family and relatives. The Charleston Herald of Saturday last records the mysterious disappearance of an old-age pensioner named WillUtn Ewing. He left the local hospital for the beach on Thursday afternoon last about three o'clock and has since been missing. He has been in the habit of taking a daily walk on the beach since he entered the hospital and the general opinion is that he was either accidentally drowned or that he committed suicide by throwing himself into the sea.
