Sydney, June 17. The ship Verajian arrived at Newcastle. She spoke the Perthshire on 7th June in latitude,. 29"38 south, longitude 165"1 East, aU weUi There -was a strong northrtQ.north-wesi; gale blowing with a heavy cross sea. , After leaving the steamer the Verajian .spoke tti'e j^rerich; steamer La Perouse, bound from Sydney to the Islands. She - reported the Perthshire's position to the Captain, and it is believed that the La Perouse will now have the Perthshire in tow. Jf t (Received June 18, at 4 40 y m.) s. . ■, Syknjjy, Junelß. The Verajian spoke the La Perouse five days later. . . The tug Hero left here the day before the La Perouse with the intention of searching the locality -where the ship sighted the steamer. Amongst the passengers of the Perthshire is Mrs Burnett and five children and , governess. . .
Thft Perttishl*», when Blghted, was making good weath&r and heading easts. She apparently had a sea anchor out. (Received June 19, at 1220 a m.) Sydney., June 18. The Perthshire in tow of the Talune, was sighted off Newcastle to-night coming on to Sydney. She ia expected to arrive to-morrow morning. A tug went out from Newcastle and-re-ports all well. . The Talune picked up the Perthshire on Tuesday last off Norfolk Island. There was great excitement at Newcastle when the Perthshire was first sighted. The cliffs were lined with' spectators with glasses. The Captain of the Perthshire informed the tug that he needed no further assistance, the Talune being sufficient. She is cominc along dead slow so as not to make Sydney before daylight, and ia being tugged by the Perthshire's own chaia cable. It was ascertained that the Bhaft did not break in the tube. The engineer endeavored to repair it by means oi coupling, but not strong enough to stand the straw. There are no further details availab le to-night.
