Accordingly the committee provided a sum 61 LIO 12s for this purpose and prifces were given at the Christmas vacation^' >Ifc was evident that the money supplied was not sufficient for the purpose*: those children who were absent more Jbhan; : two half days not, having a chance; '■'- •'->■'•■■, •■;■. -; ; : : - ..-,■ '■■...: The teachers joined with the committee in recognising the benefit to be derived from tlms encouraging; the children: to attend regularly, and the female teachers in March tost took in hand the training of aboiat 250 of.tlie children for a xofacerb in . aid of the prize fund; >; That they were successful is evidenced by thefactthatafcuirr6f"L3l 8s 6d nett ■was aerivedf romxtheir efforts, and we take this QpportUnity^ojEy xecprding ; pur :appreoiation of the services of Misses Batchelor, Blair and .Eassdtf,' andj the other teachers who assisted in bringing about' this sub- j staiitial results- This iamount is>placed to the credit of ifche schoalv^ttendance prize fund, in the PostiiOfficeiSavings Bank, and yeur-committee^incerelyJxope to see it added to before .the end .of the year and thus enable a greater number of prizes to be purchased. '^ "-feehmeal Class, The attendance at this class has been fairly satisfactory, we need scarcely point out to parents the benefits to be derived from, the, use of this class by their little ones. There is a splendid assortment of tools and an able instructor, and it but remains for parents to avail themselves of the privileges^ Excursion The Bchool excursion was held this year at* Mr Druce's homestead, Inchbonnie, tfie weather being all that could be desired, and tjhe .locality chosen a most happy one?' It was unanimously voted the most 'pleasant outing the school children have had. Mr Bruce deserves our warmest thanks for his untiring efforts to make the outing a most en joyable one. Finance The treasurer will submit his balancesheet, which, after deducting the attendance prize fund shows a most satisfactory credit balance. It will perhaps be interesting to note that the sum of nearly L2OO has passed through his hands during the past year, the sum of L 7 8s was contributed by parents towards the purchase of firing. ' ■•: School Building At the" beginning of this month the Board voted the sum of L 213 for painting and repairing the school and teachers' leaideacß, and the -work is »dw aimosfc complete. During ihe year we have loat four of aur tt&ohers, owing to the t&ttnof kh&if

apprenticeship having expired. It is to be rigretted that their retirement was necessitated by the rules of the Board. The vacancies have been filled by three probationers and a pupil teacher, Miss Weenick, Miss Cocks and Miss Zeigler (probationers), and Miss Byrne, pupil teacher. The Inspector's report was most satisfactory, and it must be gratifying to thje teaching stpff, as it is to this committeje to find that their efforts were so successful. i For the Committee. F. H.
