London, January 10. sThe Geological Society has atvardeded the Bigsby medal to Professor David, of Sydney, Secretary of the Glascial Committee of the Australasian Association for the advancement of Science in recognition of his works upon the glasical geology of Australasia.
Obituary — F Wolsely, inventor of the Wolsely sheep shearing machine. The death is announced of Henry James Prince, who in 145 founded at Charlinch the establishment known as "Afiapemone," or the "Abode of Love," where, with his followers he lived in common and professed to devote them•alves to innocent, recreations and maintain spiritual marriage. Paris, December 10.
The French sub-marine torpedo boat Gustave Lede made a successful voyage from Tulon to Marseilles. Another similar vessel is building to travel an indefinite period under water. Washington, January 9.
In the Senate Hoar moved and the Senate supported the motion vesting a resolution in the constitution empowering Government to acquire colonies without the consent of people affecbed by such action. The action of the Senate caused a profound sensation.

A Router's despatch from Ottawa says it ia untrue Canada offered to contribute to the Pacific cable equally with Britain. It is reported in official circles that Chamberlain disallows the concessions granted to Towles in connection with the New Guinea land syndicate. Desgardin, the arbitrator appointed to deal with the dispute over the expulsion of Ben Tillet from Belgium decided in favcr of the Belgian Government. The British Government has asked the Vatican not to send missionaries to the Soudan until matters are organised there. Arrangements are being made with the London importers to exhibit Australian wool at the Paris Exhibition.
The Colonial Committee and many importers of refrigerated produce are disappointed in the Australian colonies not participating in the establishment of a Colonial restaurant at the Exibition.

The editor of the Socialist newspaper Magdeburg was sentenced to four years for publishing a skit which was interpeted as an insult to the Kaiser's second son.

The editor of the Land Post has been arrested .on a charge of slandering the acting British agent at Pretoria.
