It waß mentioned that the city council had spent L 6051 of the ratepayers' fundß on the building, and allocated L 2250 for the purchase of books for a reference library and Councillor Frasor, who is chairman of the library committee of the city council, stated that in the opinion of competent authorities, the city had now the nuoleus of the best reference library in the- southern hemisphere. April 22. The Colonial Secretary returned from the north last night, and the Minister for Public Works from Christohurch thia morning. The Rev F. W. Isltt has written te the Trades and Labor Council on the question of judical separation, citing several instances of wives who had to live with drunken husbands for life, there being no free procedure whereby she could get separation.
