PUBLIC NOTICE ia hereby given, under the provisions of the "The Public Works Act, 1882," that the GREY COUNTY COUNCIL has, by resolution passed this day, established a TOLL GATE on the MAIN GRE? VALLEY ROAD, in the GREY COUNTY, near the Big Grey Bridge, to be called the MAIN GREY VALLEY ROAD TOLL GATE, and has authorised, appointed, and fixed the following SCALE OF TOLLS to be COLLECTED on and after the Ist day of JUNE, 1890, at the said MAIN GREY VALLEY ROAD TOLL GATE :— 1. For every horse, with or without rider, Is per horse. 2. For every dray, spring dray, or waggon, with wheels of 2^ inch tires, drawn by not more than 2 horses, Is per dray and Is per horse ; if less than 2 Inch tires, Is 6d per horse. 3. For every dray, spring dray, waggon or other vehicle, with wheels of 3 inch tires, drawn by not more than 3 horses, Is i per dray, spring dray, waggon, or other vehicle, and Is for each horse ; if less than 3 inch tires, 2a per horse. 4. For every coach drawn by 3 or more horses, Is for each coach and Is for each horse. 5. For every dray or waggon, with wheels of 4 inch tires, drawn by 4 or 5 horses, Is per horse and 2s per dray or waggon ; if leas than 4 inch tires, 3s per horse. 6 For every dray or waggon, with wheels of 4^ inch tires, drawn by 6 horses, Is per horße and 3s per dray or waggon ; if less than 4£ inch tires, 4s per horse. 7. For every dray or wageoa, with wheels of 5 inch tires, drawu by 7 or 8 horseß, Is per horse and 4s per dray or waggon ; if less than 5 inch tires, 5s per horse. 8. lor every dray or waggon, with wheels of 9 inch tires, drawn by 9 horses, la per horse, and 4s per dray or waggon ; if lesi than 9 inch tires, 6s per horse. 9. For every dray or waggon, drawn by more than 9 horses, and having the tires of all the wheels increased in width above 9 inohes, in the proportion of 2 inches for each horse above 9, Is per horse and 4a per dray or waggon ; if tires not Increased in width above 9 inches in the above proportion, 7s 6d per horse. 10. For every light spring vehicle, drawn by not more than two horses, la per horse and 6d per vehicle. 11. The word horse in the foregoing scale of tolls shall include mare, gelding, ass, or mule. EXEMPTIONS. 1. The exemptions mentioned In " The Public Works Act, 1882." 2. County officers on duty. 3. Maintenance contractors' vehicles, and horses working on the county roads while engaged in performing contracts for the county. 4. Ministers of religion. 5. All vehicles which were licensed under " Bye-law No. 5, made by the Grey County Council, for the licensing of all vehioleß which shall be used plying for hire within the Grey county," prior to the 7th day of May, 1890, provided such licenses are kept renewed ; and also all horses drawing such vehicles. Gbeymouth Tbotting Club Handicap — Of 40 soys. ; second horse to receive 10 soys. from the stake : 3 miles. Nomination, 203 ; acceptance, 20s. 3 pm. Victoria Park Handicap— Of 25 soys. ; second horse to receive 5 soys. from the stake ; 2 miles ; for district horsea only. Nomination, 10s ; acceptance, 15s. 4 pm. Selling Race Handicap— Of 15 soys. Winner to be sold after the race, the whole of the proceeds to go to the funds of the club ; 2 miles. Nominations, 15a ; post entry. 5 pm. Consolation Handicap — Of 15 soys. For all beaten horses during meeting ; 2 miles. Nomination, 15s ; post entry. RULES AND REGULATIONS. All entries must be sealed and addressed to the secretary, entrance money enclosed, with the name, age, and pedigree of the horse, name of the owner and colors of the riders. Previous performances must be sent in with the nominations. Handicaps declared on Saturday, May 10th. Acceptances will close at Bpm on Saturday, May 17th. All horsea to be ridden, weights lOst. To be run under the Canterbury Metropolitan Trotting Association Rules, which will be strictly enforced. Stakes paid less 5 per cent for expenses. Nominations for the Selling Race received within 15 minutes after the finish of the Greymonth Trotting Ciub Handicap, and acceptances immediately after the finish of the Victoria Park Handicap. R, 0.
