HARBOR BOARD.

Monday, 10th October.

A meeting of the Greymouth Harbor Board was held at the offices of the board this evening. Present— Messrs Kerr (chairman), Nancarrow, Sheedy, Petrie, Guinness. The minutes of the previous special meeting were read and confirmed. The finance committee's report was read and received, and a number of accounts passed for payment, amounting to L 1234 3a. The credit balance of the harbor board was L 7075. The executive committee's report was read. Amongst other matters, it authorised the carrying out of the plans for a cattle landing wharf by the Engineer, with th*. exemption of the fencing, which would be dea't with subsequently. Some discussion having ensued, the chairman expla'ned what had been decided upon by the executive committee by their own men under the supervision of the Engineer. — Mr Sheedy said that he was one who advocated thafthe work be done by day labor, as they had plenty of plait and officers to supervis* the constriction of the work.— Mr Guinness expressed hia surprise that the recommendations of the Engineer should be overridden. He ascertained that ifc would enst a considerable sum to remove this plant from the tip-head ; and in order to test the feeling of the board he would move as an amendment that 'he recommendations of the Engineer— that tenders be called— be carried out. — Mr Nancarrow seconded. The amendment-, was put and declared lost. At the request of the board the Engineer was questioned as to the time it would require to complete the whaif, and he said about two months, and the cost about £500. The Engineer's report for the fortnight was read. Ifc stated the progress of the different works carried on by the board. Contract 19 (Mr Price's contract.) was considerably behind, not much more than half the stipulated quantity of stone having been delivered. A week ago he had directed Mr Price's attention to the backwardness of his contract. A supplementary report was read, which referred mainly to the protective work being done at the wharf.
