Sydney, January 13. The number of deaths continue to increase in quarantine, and there are still many in a critical condition. Tfee utmost caution is being used to prevent contagion, Capl am Ross, who has been in possession of thettoulbourn Cathedral for some time, owing to some parochial dispute, has been forcibly rejected.* At a largely attended public meeting held at Port Macquarrie a resolution to the effect, that the policy of protection was the most advantageous to the colony was carried. At a meeting of the unemployed carpenters several tales of misery and suffering were repeated. Hutchings ran fifty yards yesterday in 6 6-10ths sec. Ihe bulk of the subscriptions to the patriotic iun<l have now been returned. The Hon. Mr Pyan died suddenly last night while in his buggy. Brisbane, January 11. Intense he it is reported from various parts of the colony. Up to 114deg. waß registered in the shade. Grass and water are everywhere abundant. Rabbits have been seen in the western „ district of the colony. Melbourne, January 13. Mrs H*mpton, who, twelve months ago, murdered her daughter, is now considered fit to be entrusted t-i her friends. The three daughters remain in gaol, but it is understood their friends are willing to Receive them.
