THE NEW HEBRIDES.

A debate on the colonial question took place to-day in the Chamber cf Deputies. Freppel's (sic) in his spec h on the occasion stated that the former mission of France to unite the New Hebrides to Caledonia had been partially resumed. He urged that the occupation of the New Hebrides must become permanent, and that the claims of England and Australia to the islands were unwarranted. He advised the Government to appease the fears of the people of Australia that a convicts station should be formed in the Hebrides by giving an absolute promise to the contrary and counselled the establishment of a protectorate orer the Solomon Group and the whole of the (Society Islands.
