South Australian Exhibition to be held at Adelaide next year, have received applications from 580 intending exhibitors, who asked in the aggregate for 68,000 ft of space ; and applications have since been received for 1430 additional feet of space, but it is doubtful whether the committee will be in a position to grant these latter. The prospectus of the Bingera Diamond Mining Company, .New South Wales, is. to be advertised shortly. Portion of the capital required has been* subscribed privately. The Agents-General for the Australian colonies are acting unitedly with the view of inducing the Imperial Postal authorities to exert themselves towards securing the establishment of a satisfactory ocean mail service between England and the Australian colonies. The Times, in commenting upon the appointment of Salomons, Q.C., to the position of Chief Justice of New South Wales, and his immediate resignation because of the ill-feeling manifested towards him by some of his brother judges of the Supreme Court bench, condemns the action of Salomons in yielding to the dictation of Justice Windeyer. The cap lain sa'-d that the delay occasioned that evening was caused through a hole in the suction hose ; but how it got there he did not know. However, he would get that rectified at once. As for the engine and appliances, he was satisfied with the way the trial had turned out. They had 18l»0Cb. of hose, and a good deal of that had not yet beei used. He agreed, however, with Mr Eissenhardt that 1000 ft. more hose was yet wanted. Although their engines were undoubtedly old, he would remind the brigade that the works of all engines were veiy much the same now as they were 30 years ago. Fireman Brimble pointed out that if there was 900 ft or 1000 ft in- store that was not used, it was a strange thing that it was not made use of at O'Brien's fire. If that had been done they might have saved another house. Af cer some little discussion foreign to the business of the meeting, the captain rrM that all such matters could be discussed on a future occasion. In the meantime as the business they had met for was concluded, he thanked them for their attendance, and the meeting broke up.
