The s.s. Stormbird arrived yesterday morning with a load of cattle. She met •with very heavy weather-in Cook Strait from the south-east, and as a result she lost of her cargo of livestock five bullocks and 20 sheep. Commander Edwin telegraphed yesterday afternoon that the weather indications denoted heavy frost and low tides. The s.s. Waipara is still in the river owing to the state of the bar at Hokitika, which, during the last few days, has become exceedingly intricate. The s s. Pelham is expected to arrive today from Wellington. The s.s. Ohau arrived yesterday morning from north. The s.s. Timaru arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and sailed in the evening for Lyttelton with 500 tons coal. The s.s. Kennedy sailed for northern ports yesterday afternoon. The s.s. Maori arrived from Picton yesterday afternoon.
