BRUNNERTON.

[from our correspondent.] Brunnerton, July 26. An accident happened this morning to a miner named James Arbuckle, who was working in the Coal Pit Heath Mine. He had been out from the face getting his tucker, and whilst in the act of stopping to shovel, a quantity of coals fell, striking him on the head and back. Dr Smith was telegraphed for, and came up by the first train. On examining the man it was considered advisable to send him to the Grey River Hospital. It is beliwed that had the coal been bumpy he would have had a very poor chance of coming off so well. According to information from Japan, two Americans in that country have been confirmed in the Buddhist faith. They are Professor Ernest Fenollosa of the Imperial University, r.nd Dr Wm. Stnrgis, Bigolow. Roth are graduates of Harvard, and both f.re stated to bo experts in Japanese art — Professor Fenollosa in painting, ar 1 Dr Bigelow in pottery and porcelair. lacquer, ivory- carving, and metal work.
