THE BARRIER MURDERER,

Auckland, July 23.

The first information obtained by Superintendent Thompson, regarding a man supposed to be Caffrey, the Barrier murderer, was received from a settler at Awhitu. He crossed the harbor to Cornwallis. The man appeared to be excited almost to the verge of madness and mistrusttul, and said he came from the Thames, and again from Rotorua. Constables are scouring the Waitakeri Ranges, Manukau Head, and Kaipara Head settlements. The settlers declared he identified Caffrey by the photographs shown him.
