M. LORILLARD'S RETIREMENT.

The retirompnt of Mr Pierre Lorillard from the turf has created widespread disappointment In America. These successes doubtless aroused the enthusiasm of Americans, and in a great measure helped to increase the interest in flat racing. Mr Lorillard does not conceal his opinion that bookmakers have become far too powerful on, the American turf, and he strongly objects' to their owning horses, instead of keeping to their own legitimate business.
