SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.
;: ♦ t The annual meeting of householders to P elect the Greymoufch School Committee | took place last night in the State School. | The Mayor was voted to the chair. The \j. report of the outgoing School Committee f was received. For the new committee I ten nominations were taken, and a ballot t gave the following result : — ; MrJ. Petrie 363 Mr R. Helms 189 ! Mr E. I. Lord 132 ; MrW. J. Holder 131 MrG. Perolti 126 Mr J. Blackmore 118 ■- MrW. C. Smith 112 ). Mr 0. S. M'Dowell ... 52 I MrR. Wilson 43 I- MrT. Funston 27 ; The first seven gentlemen were declared \i elected. There were 192 votes recorded, f seven of which were informal. There I were 27 plumpers for Mr Petrie, \ which are equivalent to 189 votes. Mr Petrie returned thanks, and stated that ;, although some people were of opinion that .Board members should not be committee r members, the verdict of the poll showed : that a larse majority were in favor of his ! view of his question. gs~. , 4 Mr Helms, in returning thanks, made a f most determined attack on the present : management of the school. He stated that the confidence of the committee had been misplaced in the appointment of Mr 5?; Thornton as head master, and that the ?r acting Inspector, Mr E. T. Robinson, had i made a false statement in regard to the ; sewing taught in the school, as in hiß rej^pprt;he had called it satisfactory, whereas P*it^was^ibts.o. Mr Petrie returned thanks | for Mr Lord, and" the meeting closed with I votes of thanks to the chairman and | scrutineer.
