London, January 7. Tenders tor the mail service have been suspended until Queensland, Tasmania, and Western Australia have decided whether all postages from those colonies j shall be sent by the federal service, unless specially addressed. The exports for the year show a decrease ] of £20,000,000 as compared with the re- '■ turn for last year. In the imports there is also a falling off of £16,000,000. January 8. India declines to reduce the cable charges on general and Government telegrams. Germany has also declined to make any reduction in the Pres3 messages. Mr Anderson, of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, is still sanguine that a reduction will be effected.
