SHIPMENT OF PETROLEUM IN BULK.
For the second time an attempt is to be made to carry petroleum (kerosene) across the Atlantic in bulk. The first experiment was eminently unsuccessful, none of the vessels ever being heard of again ; but the system on which the oil is to be stored is to be modified considerably, and it is hoped that thus all danger of shifting cargo to a dangerous extent will be obviated. The Andromeda, one of the specially fitted vessels, has no less than 72 tanks, holding from 100 to 200 barrals each ; these tanks will be built fitted to the shape of the ship for economy of room.
