Sydney, January 15,

The cooks and stewards here are in accord with the strikers, and giving them considerable support. The Sydney ship owners are unanimous in their determination not to give way. Further developments of the dispute are anxiously awaited.

Melbourne, January 1 5,

The men brought over from New Zealand by the s.s Waihora have been distributed among the various shipowners, there being only a few absentees when called upon.

The members of the Cooks' and Stewards' Union decided to go out on strike today.

A meeting of the Seamen's Union was held last night, when the men declined to agree to the appointment of a Board of Conciliation, and pledged themselves to resume work only when the demands of the wharf laborers were satisfied.

The Employers' Union, acting in conjunction with the Trades Council, is endeavoring to intercede for the settlement of the difficulty. #: In consequence of the strike the departures of the coasting steamers are being delayed.

Shipowrers are making-vigorous efforts to replace the crews, and are meeting with partial success. The engineers followed the example of the seamen and have issued a notice announcing their intention to strike work. It is expressly stipulated however that this action does not apply to the Union Company, New Zealand.

The- seamen on the Intercolonial steamers, acting in concert with the Melbourne strikers, and the crew of Messrs Howard Smith's s 8 Rodondo, have given formal notice of their intention to ceaße work at once.
