Mr Page, who has returned to Cook town from^ New Guinea in. the schoonei Retriever, reports that everything is quiet along the coast of New Guinea from Motu Motu to Hula. Peace had been proclaimed between the Motuans of the Manu Manu district,* and the Dourans from the base of Mount O*en Stanley, through the mediation of the whites. Only 10 adult Dourans are now left out of a once pewerful tribe. Great improvements are being made at Port Moresby. A Government house is being erected on the summit of a hill 300 ft. above the sea level, with a winding road leading to it. Water is being brought down to the beach for the use of vessels. The steamer Herbert from Port Moresby, reports that H.M.S.S. Undine, Diamond, Swinger, Raven Barrier, and the s.s. Governor Blackall, ware all ab Moresby Island. At Kaili, which is a small village on the coast, about 20 miles east of Port Moresby, the bushmen came down and slaughtered 30 of the inhabitants.
