The heavy rain on Wednesday and Wednesday night had its effect up n the river yesterday, when it was in strong fresh; and put a stop to any shipping movements. The sea on the bar was very rough all yesterday. It is reported that the Russian Admiralty has ordered a couple of first class rapid cruisers of a Danish bulilder a Copenhagen. . The Union Company and Black Diamond line steamer Taupo left Auckland for Greymouth direct on Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock. The b.b. Pelham, Captain Greagor, leaves Dunedin on Monday, 23rd November, for Greymouth, calling at Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Nelson. Commander Edwin wired "urgent" at 1 p.m. yesterday that bad weather may be expected between N.W. to W. and S. Glass fall again soon, but will rise after 16 hours from now, with cold weather and heavy sea.
