The Hon. Mr Thornton has been appointed Minister of Mines, which portfolio was previously held by Mr F. A. Wright, who resigned after his defeat at the general elections. Mr Thornton will be the representative of the Government in the Legislative Council.

New Zealand wheat is 2d dearer, 3s 2d ; New Zealand oats, 2s 2d, an advance of 2d
per bushel ; maize, 501bs, firm at 3s 7d ; Sugar Company's No. 1, £26.
