THE PUBLIC ACCOUNTS.
The public accounts are now ready. The year's balance on ordinary revenue and expenditure account Bhows a surplus of £22,003 Is 6d. Last year's deficiency was £152,111 18s 7d, and £150,000 remains in deficiency bills. The balance (£2,111 18s 7d) has been written off, reducing the surplus to £19,891 2s lid. The figures on the 31st March stand as follow : — Cash in public account, £186,397 Us lOd ; advances in hands of Government officers in England and colony, £33,493 11s Id ; total, £219,891 2s lid. Deducting £200,000, amount of deficiency bills outstanding irrespective of last year's deficit, the balance is £19j891 2s lid. . : :
